6 Responses to Food Nutrition Labels – Major Changes Ahead

  1. Herb says:

I don’t think the average American or whoever is really going to care. They’re going to look at the package and still down its contents and get another one if they weren’t satisfied..

    • From the looks of our obesity stats in the U.S., I tend to agree with you. Although the obesity stats for younger adults have come down over the last 4 years. Possibly concerned Moms will make the difference as they read these labels more closely. Thanks for your comments. All the best!

  2. JP McLean says:

I’m one of those people who read the labels, unless it’s a chocolate bar, because I know those have no added sugar, fat or calories. I’m curious though, how will they label “family-sized” packages, for example, those big bags of chips.

  3. LOL – I agree with you, JP, about the chocolate bar – there’s no way something that tastes so good could be anything but “healthy” for you! 🙂

Regarding the “family-sized” packages, the new labels will reflect what a portion size is and the label will state how many portions are in the container. That happens now, but the good news is that the label will be revised to state how much an “actual portion” is, rather than some reduced size thought up in a laboratory that has nothing to do with the portions people eat in real life.

Thanks for your comments and questions. All the best to you!

  4. Great stuff, James. Now our job is to push (as in, lobby) politicians to ensure common sense labels see the light of day immediately. You can bet the powerful food industry lobbyists are hard at work trying to stop the FDA and its counterparts in other countries from disclosing the levels of poisons (sugar, artificial colors, preservatives, etc., etc.) they’re stuffing into their products without regard for our health.
